Superstar Aamir Khan’s 2016 released blockbuster film ‘Dangal’ performed equally well commercially and having collected over 1,100 crore(US$ 171 million) worldwide in all languages, stands as the second highest-grossing Indian film after Baahubali 2: The Conclusion.
Dangal emerged as highest-grossing Bollywood film of all time in international markets grossing US$ 90 million, with US$ 60 million alone in China surpassing PK (film).
Dangal was screened at the 7th Beijing International Film Festival, the first Indian film to be screened the Festival, in the non-competing panorama section in April 2017 as Shuaijiao Baba (Let’s Wrestle, Father!), and received a standing ovation. It released theatrically on 5 May in 9,000 screens.
Dangal became the 2nd Indian film to cross the 7 billion (US$110 million) mark after PK. Dangal is second Indian film to gross more than Rs 2 billion in overseas markets, after PK grossed US$46.52 million (Rs 2.94 billion). The worldwide gross of Dangal went to 1100 crore in all languages, after it was released in China.
The film grossed approximately US$11.46 million (Rs. 780.7 million) at the North America box office, the Gulf box office crossed 563 million (US$8.7 million). In Australia, Dangal collected $1.86 million (Rs.126.5 million) till date and has emerged as the All Time Highest Grosser in the region. At the UK box office, it grossed $3.93 million (267.4 million).
At the New Zealand box office, the movie has collected 29.8 million (US$460,000) and has emerged as the highest-grossing film in the region. Dangal collected $29.43 million (Rs 2006.5 million) from total overseas sources. In China, it became the highest grossing Indian film, after grossing US$14.5 million in just four days from theatrical release.
The collections in the country totaled to 300 crore after collecting 88 crore on day nine from release, taking the overall collections past 1,000 crore, becoming only the second Indian film to reach the mark
